K Hand Coater - RK Print

Product Description

The K Hand Coater from RK Print is a simple but effective means of applying paints, printing inks, lacquers, adhesives and other surface coatings onto a wide range of substrates, including paper, board, plastic films, foils, metal plates, glass plates and wood.

It is the most economical way to lay down a controlled, even film for laboratory and quality-control work. A special impression bed gives good repeatability, while the interchangeable K bars let the operator dial in the required wet film thickness across a range of 4 to 500 micron.

K Bars

K bars are precision wire-wound stainless steel rods. They are numbered and colour coded so the right bar is easy to select. Standard bars range from no. 0 (4 micron) to no. 8 (100 micron), and bespoke bars can be supplied to apply specific volumes. Because two or more products can be coated simultaneously, the K Hand Coater is ideal for drawing down side-by-side samples for visual assessment of properties such as colour and gloss.

Applications

  • Drawdown of paints, inks, lacquers and adhesives
  • Colour and gloss comparison of coatings
  • Sample preparation for laboratory and QC testing
  • Coating of paper, board, films, foils, metal, glass and wood

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the K Hand Coater used for?
The K Hand Coater is a simple, economical way to apply a controlled, even film of paints, printing inks, lacquers, adhesives and other surface coatings onto many substrates including paper, board, plastic films, foils, metal plates, glass plates and wood. It is widely used for visual assessment of properties such as colour and gloss.
What wet film thickness can the K Hand Coater apply?
Depending on the K bar selected, the K Hand Coater can lay down wet film deposits between 4 and 500 micron. Standard bars range from no. 0 (4 micron) to no. 8 (100 micron), and bespoke bars can be supplied to apply specific volumes.
What are K bars and how are they selected?
K bars are precision wire-wound stainless steel rods that meter the coating onto the substrate. Each bar is numbered and colour coded, so the operator simply selects the bar that corresponds to the required wet film thickness. The wound wire gauge determines how much coating is deposited.
How does the K Hand Coater achieve good repeatability?
A special impression bed supports the substrate during the draw-down, giving consistent contact and pressure between the K bar and the surface. This produces repeatable, even coatings from sample to sample.
Can I compare more than one coating at the same time?
Yes. The K Hand Coater allows two or more products to be coated simultaneously, making it easy to draw down side-by-side samples for direct comparison of colour, gloss and other film properties.
Which substrates can be coated?
The K Hand Coater works on a wide range of flat substrates including paper, board, plastic films, foils, metal plates, glass plates and wood.
