VCML Lab / Pilot Coater - RK Print

Product Description

The VCML Lab / Pilot Coater from RK Print is a precision-engineered machine that prints, coats and laminates flexible webs - including papers, films and metallic foils - on a reel-to-reel basis. It bridges the gap between hand drawdowns and full production, making it ideal for product development, quality control and small-scale specialised production.

The VCML applies a wide range of materials such as inks, paints, varnishes and adhesives, in both solvent and water based formulations, and is also suited to UV based applications. Because the coating and printing systems are easily interchangeable, a single VCML platform can be reconfigured to match the technique, material and process under development.

Web Handling and Control

The machine handles web widths up to 300 mm and is driven by a servo system with a speed range of 1 to 50 m/min for precise, repeatable runs. Operation is through a touch screen control system with a graphical set-up and operating interface, backed by integrated electrical and pneumatic controls. Everything is built on a rigid aluminium framework with an approximate footprint of 2.5 m (L) x 1 m (W) x 1.8 m (H).

Stations and Options

A head mounting station with tray lift and trough makes changing application heads straightforward, while a laminator station with an adjustable pneumatic nip supports lamination work. The VCML can be further configured with drying and curing options such as a hot-air impingement dryer and infrared (IR) curing, so solvent, water and UV based coatings can be processed inline.

Applications

  • Reel-to-reel coating, printing and laminating of flexible webs
  • Development and QC of inks, paints, varnishes and adhesives
  • Solvent, water and UV based coating processes
  • Small-scale specialised production of low-volume products
  • Scaling laboratory formulations toward a production-style web process

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the VCML Lab / Pilot Coater used for?
The VCML is a precision reel-to-reel machine that prints, coats and laminates flexible webs such as papers, films and metallic foils. It is designed for product development, quality control and small-scale production of low-volume specialised products, letting laboratories scale up from hand drawdowns to a continuous web process.
What types of coatings and applications can the VCML handle?
The VCML applies inks, paints, varnishes and adhesives in solvent, water and UV based formulations. Because the coating and printing systems are interchangeable, the same machine can be reconfigured for different application methods to suit the material and process being developed.
What web width and line speed does the VCML support?
The VCML handles webs up to 300 mm wide and runs on a servo drive with a speed range of 1 to 50 m/min, giving precise, repeatable control for both slow trials and faster pilot runs.
How are the coating and printing systems changed?
The coating and printing systems on the VCML are easily interchangeable. A head mounting station with tray lift and trough lets operators swap application heads, while a laminator station with an adjustable pneumatic nip supports lamination work, so one platform covers several techniques.
Can the VCML dry or cure coatings inline?
Yes. The VCML can be configured with drying and curing options such as a hot-air impingement dryer and infrared (IR) curing, allowing solvent, water and UV based coatings to be processed in a continuous reel-to-reel pass.
How is the VCML operated and how large is it?
The VCML is run from a touch screen control system with a graphical set-up and operating interface, with integrated electrical and pneumatic controls. It is built on a rigid aluminium framework with an approximate footprint of 2.5 m (L) x 1 m (W) x 1.8 m (H).
