Product Description
The Optomet Fiber Micro Manipulator is a fiber-coupled SWIR laser Doppler vibrometer with a measurement head built for precise laser alignment. The beam direction is set by a mirror-controlled system that is operated with a joystick using a high gear ratio, which allows fine positioning of the laser onto small or hard-to-reach targets. Measurement is non-contact, using the Doppler effect to record velocity, displacement and acceleration.
A visible targeting laser at 510-530 nm marks where the measurement laser is pointing and assists alignment during setup. The measurement laser is a SWIR source at 1550 nm, which can measure dark, rough or glowing surfaces. The head can be combined with a microscope so that observation and measurement use separate, aligned optical paths. One documented use is hearing research, where the laser is aimed into the ear canal to study the vibrational behaviour of the ear and of middle ear implants during design, development, quality control, calibration and certification.
The head used is the Autofocus Pro mid-range fiber head, measuring 241 x 100.5 x 44 mm, with a removable fiber cable available in 2, 5 and 20+ m lengths and a working distance from 135 mm to 10 m. Autofocus, remote focus and manual focus are supported, and the minimum focus spot size is typically 42 µm at 135 mm.
The system covers a frequency bandwidth from DC to 25 MHz and vibrational velocities up to 30 m/s, with a 32-bit displacement dynamic range and a displacement resolution down to 50 femtometer. Signals are handled by digital Optomet UltraDSP processing. A velocity decoder is included as standard, with displacement and acceleration decoders available as options; decoders offer multiple measuring ranges and can be retrofitted or upgraded without returning the instrument to the factory.
Digital output is via Gigabit Ethernet (RJ45) or WiFi, with three standard BNC analog outputs. The unit has a 3.5” colour screen with a 20-segment LED bargraph and is operated through a touch screen, knobs with push-button, and a key switch. OptoGUI software provides remote control, data acquisition and analysis in single-point mode over the digital Ethernet connection.
