Product Description

The Optomet Nova Series is a single-point laser Doppler vibrometer from the CLASSIC Series. It measures the velocity, displacement and acceleration of a vibrating surface without contact, by evaluating the Doppler frequency shift of laser light reflected from the measurement point. Signal processing is fully digital and handled by the Optomet UltraDSP.

The measurement beam is a short-wavelength infrared (SWIR) laser at 1550 nm, paired with a visible 510-530 nm targeting laser for aiming. At this wavelength the system can emit up to 10 mW while remaining laser class 1, and the laser runs in a single longitudinal mode, so sensitivity does not depend on the measuring distance. Because the measurement is optical, vibrations can be recorded on surfaces that are difficult for visible-light vibrometers, such as deep-black, glass, carbon-composite and incandescent metal surfaces, without surface preparation.

The Nova Series covers a frequency bandwidth from DC to 25 MHz and vibrational velocities up to 30 m/s, with the available velocity, displacement and acceleration ranges set by the fitted decoder. Four interchangeable bayonet-mount lenses (Short-, Mid-, Long- and Super-Long-Range) provide working distances from 6 mm to 200 m. Digital output is over GBit-Ethernet and three BNC connectors provide analog output. The instrument is operated through a 3.5-inch color screen with a 20-segment LED bargraph, knobs, a touch screen and a key switch.

It is used for non-contact vibration measurement in materials research, automotive and aerospace component testing, civil engineering and quality control, including turbine-blade analysis and long-distance measurements where mounting sensors is impractical.
