SMART Single+ - Optomet

Product Description

The Optomet SMART Single+ is a single-point laser Doppler vibrometer that integrates a vibrometer, a data acquisition unit and an arbitrary signal generator in one device. It measures velocity, displacement and acceleration at a measurement point without contact, using the Doppler principle on light reflected from the surface.

The instrument is used to determine transfer functions of test objects and to characterise the dynamic properties of materials and components. Because the measurement is optical, no sensor is mounted on the surface, so the test object is not loaded with additional mass and measurements can be taken on lightweight, small, hot or moving surfaces.

The maximum frequency range is configurable from DC to 50 MHz (the basis model covers up to 250 kHz), and the velocity range is adjustable from 1 mm/s to 50 m/s. The measurement laser operates at 1550 nm (class 1), with a separate visible target laser for aiming. A 7-inch Full HD+ touchscreen and the SMART Lab software handle configuration, real-time FFT and frequency response function analysis, and data export. As part of the modular SMART Series, the device can synchronise with other SMART units for phase-correct multi-point measurements.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the SMART Single+ and what does it measure?
The SMART Single+ is a single-point laser Doppler vibrometer from Optomet that combines a vibrometer, a data acquisition unit and a signal generator in one device. It measures velocity, displacement and acceleration at a measurement point without contact, using the Doppler principle on light reflected from the surface.
What frequency and velocity ranges does the SMART Single+ cover?
The maximum frequency range is configurable from DC to 50 MHz; the basis model covers up to 250 kHz. The velocity range is adjustable from 1 mm/s to 50 m/s, with a basis maximum velocity of 15 m/s that can be upgraded to 25 m/s or 50 m/s. Displacement is measurable from 10 nm to 100 m and acceleration from 10 m/s² to 100 million m/s².
How does non-contact laser vibrometry differ from accelerometers?
The SMART Single+ measures optically, so it adds no mass to the test object and requires no mounting or wiring at the measurement point. This allows measurement on lightweight, small, hot or moving surfaces where attaching a sensor is impractical.
What lasers does the instrument use?
The measurement laser operates at 1550 nm and is class 1. A separate visible target laser at 510-530 nm (class 2) is used to aim the measurement spot. The working distance ranges from 6 mm to 100 m.
What applications is the SMART Single+ used for?
It is used in civil engineering (bridges, buildings, railways), the analysis of tools and machinery dynamics, acoustics and ultrasonics, and quality control and product development. It is also used to determine transfer functions and characterise the dynamic properties of materials and components.
Can the SMART Single+ be used with other devices and software?
It is part of Optomet's modular SMART Series and can synchronise with other SMART devices for phase-correct, multi-point measurements. The included SMART Lab software provides remote control, real-time FFT analysis, frequency response function calculation, spectrogram visualisation and data export to .csv, .h5, .mat and .wav.
