Product Description

The Optomet Vector-Micro-Optics is an optical measurement head that extends the Vector laser Doppler vibrometer series for vibration measurements on very small objects. It pairs micro-optics that focus the measurement laser to a spot of about 3.7 µm with a 12 MP 4K camera used to place that spot precisely on the test object. It is used in electronics development and for measurements on electronic components and other structures too small for a standard vibrometer spot.

The head uses the Vector series’ visible HeNe laser at 632.8 nm. Vibration is measured by the Doppler principle: light reflected from the vibrating surface is shifted in frequency, and the decoder electronics convert this shift into velocity, with displacement and acceleration available through optional decoders. Because the measurement is optical, no sensor is mounted on the surface and no mass is added to the object.

The laser spot is approximately 3.7 µm in diameter at a working distance of about 21.5 mm, with a depth of field of 0.022 mm. The integrated camera (4000 × 3000 pixels, USB 3.1) gives a magnified view for aiming, and a built-in contrast adjustment filter helps make the laser spot visible on the target. The available frequency and velocity ranges are set by the selected Vector decoder series, spanning from DC–100 kHz at 2 m/s up to DC–25 MHz at 10 m/s; with Optomet’s UltraDSP technology, displacements can be resolved to less than 100 fm. Decoder modules can be retrofitted without returning the unit to the factory. The system is operated through the OptoGUI software over Gigabit Ethernet for single-point data acquisition and analysis.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Vector-Micro-Optics?
The Vector-Micro-Optics is an optical measurement head that extends the Optomet Vector laser Doppler vibrometer series for measurements on very small objects. It combines micro-optics that focus the measurement laser to a spot of about 3.7 µm with a 12 MP 4K camera used to place the spot precisely on the test object.
How does it measure vibration?
It uses the Vector vibrometer's visible HeNe laser (632.8 nm) and the Doppler principle: light reflected from the vibrating surface is shifted in frequency, and the decoder electronics convert this shift into velocity, and optionally displacement and acceleration. The measurement is non-contact, so no sensor mass is added to the object.
How small a spot and what working distance does it provide?
The laser spot is approximately 3.7 µm in diameter at a working distance of about 21.5 mm, with a depth of field of 0.022 mm. This allows measurements on objects that are no longer visible to the naked eye.
What frequency and velocity ranges are available?
The ranges depend on the selected Vector decoder series. They span from velocity up to DC–100 kHz at 2 m/s (Start) to DC–25 MHz at 10 m/s (Master+), with displacement resolvable to less than 100 fm using Optomet's UltraDSP technology. Displacement and acceleration decoders are optional.
What is the camera used for?
A built-in 12 MP / 4K camera (4000 × 3000 pixels, USB 3.1) provides a magnified view of the target so the laser spot can be aimed accurately on small components. A built-in contrast adjustment filter helps make the laser spot visible on the target.
What is it used for?
It is used in electronics development and for measurements on electronic components, MEMS, and other microscopic structures where the test object is too small for a standard vibrometer spot. It is operated through the OptoGUI software over Gigabit Ethernet for single-point data acquisition and analysis.
